THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 – Texas A&M International University students are invited to attend a special Student Organization Mixer at 6 p.m. in the Student Center second floor Rotunda. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 – Campus Activities Board (CAB), together with the Office of Student Activities, will host a special showing of the film, “The Orphanage,” today at 7 p.m. in the Student Center room 236. The showing is as a part of the ongoing celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. “The Orphanage” is a supernatural drama of a little orphan girl who returns to the orphanage she once lived in 30 years later to re-open the abandoned building to sick and disabled children. To her and her family’s surprise, the orphanage has become quite dark and events lead them to believe the building is now haunted. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 – RAD Basic Self Defense Strategies for Women continues today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Rape Aggression Defense System (RAD) is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. system is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hand-on defense training. R.A.D. is taught by TAMIU police officers who are nationally certified R.A.D. instructors. Attire should be a T-shirt, no white T-shirts or V-neck, comfortable workout pants and comfortable tennis shoes.
